Sharpdevelop 3.2 Portable, Happy Testing!

I wrote about #develop a couple of days ago. For all not-german speakers the short version: I installed #develop. It was very easy to configure it to use a different directory reading settings. I was to lazy creating an installer that time

I created the installer and linked it in portableapps.com for beta testing. Have fun and feel free to feedback!

SharpDevelop Portable 3.2

Wer eine schlanke und trotzdem vollfunktionsfähige IDE für .NET sucht, sollte einen Blick auf SharpDevelop werfen. Das Programm ist OpenSource und ist mitlerweile in der Version 3.2 verfügbar.

Ich nutze SharpDevelop für alles was Quick & Dirty erledigt werden kann. Der Vorteil ist einfach, dass die Installation knappe 100 MB umfasst und damit wesentlich schlanker ist als Visual Studio .NET. Zudem integriert eine Installation u.a. die .NET Sprachen C# und VB.NET, die bei der Expressinstallation von VS separat gedownloadet und installiert werden müssen.

Damit SharpDevelop auch portable eingesetzt werden kann, haben die Entwickler direkt an eine Konfigurationsdatei gedacht, in der angegeben werden kann wohin Settings und Cache geschrieben werden sollen. Ich hab darüber hinaus das ganze mal in eine Portableapps.com-kompatible Struktur gebracht und einen entsprechenden Launcher geschrieben. Das einzige was ihr noch machen müsst ist deswegen das downgeloadete Archiv in das Verzeichnis “PortableApps” zu entpacken

Take me to the Silverlight

Ok, I can’t resist this wordplay . Inspired by the article of Arthur Hefti I started to build a small application to build a bridge between Powerbuilder’s and Silverlight’s world. It’s a shoutbox to show and enter entries from non-registered users.

Silverlight

Every beginning is difficult. So my advantage was, that I have some experience with C# and Visual Studio. If yout want to start with Silverlight I recommend the tutorial here. I did it and my result can be found here.

Shoutbox

The concept is, that a powerbuilder webservice takes care about saving, deleting and loading entries from or to a Microsoft SQL Server database. The Silverligt frontend can use this functions to provide the functionality to the user. It sounds so easy, but it was a hard way .

Powerbuilder and Silverlight

The target of the example was to find out how Powerbuilder can interact with the silverlight technology. I big advantage of silverlight ist XAML. XAML is xml-based language to describe the user interface. I determine, that there is only a few C#-Code needed at least. With the Powerbuilder .NET Assembly-Feature it could be easy to compile wrapper classes for your Powerbuilder business logic and call it by Silverlight. Or you can use SOAP like Arthur Hefti and I did.

Quickschedule 1.2 ist online. Ich hab’ mich ein bischen um die Onlinehilfe gekümmert. Zudem kommt das ganze jetzt als handliches Setup. Ist ja auch viel einfacher so
